Empowering You Through Labor & Delivery

Pregnancy and motherhood are exciting, challenging, and joyful all at once — even when it’s not your first time around. That’s why we provide everything you need along your pregnancy journey. From your own Birth Experience Coordinator to the most knowledgeable obstetricians, nurses, and certified childbirth educators, you’ll always have expert guidance.

There’s nothing quite like the joy of starting your own family. Whether you’re getting ready for your first child or your third, you’re most certainly busy preparing your head, heart, and home for your newest arrival.

While some things you may anticipate during pregnancy, like taking daily vitamins and prepping your hospital overnight bag, other potential needs, like finding a specialized pregnancy doctor who treats high-risk newborns, aren’t as obvious. That’s why it’s a good idea to meet with a family planning expert and obstetrician. They will help you boost your chances of a safe pregnancy and check for any high-risk factors, long before your last trimester.

Birth Experience Coordinator
We also offer a seasoned team of Birth Experience Coordinators who will handle every detail of your maternity care. As a registered nurse and certified childbirth educator, your Birth Experience Coordinator will guide you through every stage of your pregnancy, coordinating each prenatal appointment, answering every question, and even checking your insurance. You can also count on them to remind you to get to your prenatal screenings — and have the right prenatal checklists handy, too. We provide all of this and more, so you can relax, enjoy, and focus on welcoming your newborn into your life.

Classes for New Parents
Enroll in one of our many classes to help you get familiar with new parenting skills. Choose from a bootcamp for new dads, breastfeeding support and lactation consultation, baby care basics, pediatric CPR, and more. Led by registered nurses and certified childbirth educators, our courses will provide you with the essentials for your new addition.

When you’re pregnant, the passing of time is measured in weeks and fruit sizes. While pregnancy can be a joyful journey, it can also come with its own set of concerns — ones you can bring to us any time, day or night. Your team of prenatal care specialists and midwives are here to make sure you have access to the latest advancements in OB care, plus the support and resources you need to enjoy the healthiest possible pregnancy.

At AdventHealth for Women, you have four locations to choose from to help keep your care close to home. The first step is meeting face-to-face with your obstetrician, who advises you on your care. If you’d like a certified nurse midwife, you can meet with him or her, too. Tour one of The Baby Places next, where you can attend parenting classes and personalize your delivery with a Birth Wish List. From low-intervention births with music to full pain-care assistance, you can often choose the delivery that’s right for you. You’ll even enjoy leading technologies such as mobile fetal monitoring, which allows you to move around during labor and potentially speeds up your time to delivery.

When it comes time for your baby’s birth day, your obstetrician will be on hand to help guide your child into the world. Once you and your new bundle are settled, we’ll be here to provide all the care you both need, including baby blessings and even upgraded amenities like mom-and-baby portraits to share with friends and family. We’ll help you relax in a hospital suite with WiFi, TV, and pull-out couches for overnight visitors.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine Expertise

No one wants to hear the words “high-risk pregnancy,” but if these words become a part of your journey, we hope you find comfort knowing that our team of specialists is always prepared to help you. At both AdventHealth for Women and AdventHealth for Children, our Comprehensive Fetal Medicine programs are designed to support your pregnancy day by day, week by week, guided by your Birth Experience Coordinator and customized care plan.

Your pregnancy may be high-risk if you:

  • Are Older Than 35
  • Have Learned You’re Having Twins (or Triplets!)
  • Have Pre-existing Health Conditions
  • Were High-Risk in Past Pregnancies

Obstetrics High Risk Unit

If your pregnancy is considered high-risk, you’ll be regularly screened and monitored for any issues or complications. Your High-Risk Unit team will coordinate with both your obstetrician and the Level III NICU at AdventHealth for Children and keep you well-informed along the way. No matter your circumstances, rest assured that our maternal-fetal medicine team is equipped to guide your baby into the world.

Care Coordination

If you have a high-risk pregnancy or fetal complications, you need extra support. That’s why our care coordinator is here to act as your personal health navigator by talking you through what to expect, scheduling appointments, answering questions, and providing tours through the facilities. She’ll be involved at every step of your health care journey for encouragement and guidance.

Pediatric Specialists

Over 130 pediatric specialists at AdventHealth for Children are prepared to care for your new little one. Covering a wide range of disciplines including cardiology, neurology/neurosurgery, genetics and minimally invasive surgery, their expertise is backed by leading technologies and therapies designed to give you the greatest hope, and your child the best possible outcomes. For more than a century, we have built a legacy of excellence, service and commitment to providing extraordinary care and uncommon compassion.

During pregnancy, your body aims to nourish and protect your baby’s health, but you may need a little special handling and attention along the way. For high-risk pregnancies or newborns who require extra care, we offer a compassionate, round-the-clock nursing staff and maternal-fetal medicine specialists with the highest levels of neonatal treatment — including three Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) and Central Florida’s largest Level III NICU.

There are a few reasons your pregnancy may be considered high-risk and your baby may benefit from NICU care, including:

  • Birth Defects
  • Inability to Breastfeed or Take Formula
  • Prematurity
  • Risk of Mother or Father Having a Chronic Health Condition (e.g., diabetes)

It’s natural to be concerned if your baby needs NICU attention. But take comfort in knowing that our NICUs are staffed by pediatricians who treat infants with love and expert care day in and day out. Our hand-picked team undergoes years of extra training with newborns to become experienced neonatologists. At AdventHealth for Women, we help your child thrive by using the newest pediatric technology, guided by a warm, supportive staff, so you always feel safe, comfortable, and valued.

Your body will probably feel different after childbirth, and you’ll need time to regain your strength and flexibility. You may also experience pelvic discomfort, back pain, or incontinence, and wonder if these symptoms are normal. You’re not alone; many women experience these common symptoms after labor and delivery.

Many times, pregnancies and/or childbirth can result in weakness in your pelvic floor. These symptoms are uncomfortable but highly treatable. Your Birth Experience Coordinator can connect you with our Body After Baby program, which includes physical therapists who specialize in pelvic rehabilitation.

If you’re feeling more than the typical pelvic discomfort, we can treat your pain with innovative techniques, such as the latest minimally invasive robotic surgery and single-incision laparoscopy techniques. With fewer incisions, you’ll experience minimal scarring, less pain, and a short recovery time, so you can quickly return to nurturing and bonding with your baby.

Request an Appointment

Once your baby’s here, the real adventure begins. Your daily routines are about to change, but stay confident, savor every snuggle, and have faith that you know just what your child needs. Also know that our care doesn’t end after you take your baby home. At every turn, our nurses and educators will be here to offer any help you need, including screening and support for postpartum depression.

The first year of motherhood can sometimes feel overwhelming. We do everything we can to help you become more confident as you embark on the journey of parenthood by offering some post-pregnancy classes and lectures, including:

  • Baby Bunch: A weekly gathering designed for moms of young babies, from newborn to 12 months old, with helpful discussions on feeding options, infant development, and maternal health.
  • Little Music Makers: Sing, Play, Grow — an early-childhood music group for newborns to 12-month-olds.
  • Your Body After Baby: As part of our pelvic health program, our therapists work with new moms to address their questions and concerns about pelvic floor issues that may occur after delivery.

Above all, we want you to know you’re never alone, and that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Adjusting to life as “Mom” can be challenging. If you’re not feeling quite like yourself and you’re concerned about your mental and spiritual well-being, ask for help, always. We’ll be there to lift you up, and happily connect you with postpartum counselors and screenings. Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, we’ll always be cheering you on and wishing the best for your growing family.

Breastfeeding Support

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, breastfeeding can satisfy all your infant’s nutritional needs for the first six months of life. But it’s about more than just feeding — it also creates quality bonding time with your child that comforts them and nurtures feelings of safety, security and love.
